The five patterns below are for the pentatonic scale. Play them from the lowest note on the 6th string, upwards to the 1st string, and then back. The colored dots represent the tonic tone, and will always be the top note on the 1st & 6th strings, and the bottom note on the 4th string.
The patterns are linked as you go down the neck. Looking at the 6th string, the bottom note of any pattern will be the top note of the next pattern. The bottom note of pattern #5 will be the top note of pattern #1, one octave (12 frets) down from the first pattern #1. You can continue repeating the patterns down the neck until you run out of frets.
If you set a phone flat in front of you, in landscape orientation, while you're holding your guitar, the #6 string of these patterns will be closest to your eyes, and the #6 string of the guitar will be closest to your eyes.
